More Information
The white mantle emblazoned with a red cross – the famous uniform of the medieval Templars – is echoed in the vestments of today’s Masonic Templars, symbolizing purity of life and willingness to sacrifice. Through solemn ceremonies, medieval titles, and rich symbolism, the fraternity forges a link between past and present, using the Knights Templar tradition to reinforce Masonic teachings. The result is a unique blend of ritual, chivalry, and fellowship that invites members to walk in the footsteps of the legendary Knights as men dedicated to faith and virtue.
FAITH
Faith is the cornerstone of the Knights Templar. Every Knight is expected to demonstrate a steadfast devotion to God and the teachings of Christ in both word and deed. The original medieval Templars were warrior-monks with “an unwavering commitment to faith,” praying regularly and viewing their mission as a sacred duty.
CHIVALRY & COURAGE
Every Masonic Templar is called to exemplify Chivalry, the code of conduct associated with noble knights. In medieval times, chivalry meant bravery in battle, loyalty to comrades, protection of the weak, and unfailing courtesy. Today’s Templars translate those ideals into moral courage, charity, and brotherly kindness.
DUTY
The Knights Templar teach that Duty is the active expression of one’s faith and chivalry. Knights are charged to serve others selflessly, seeing this service as service to God. This principle dates back to the original Templars, who famously protected pilgrims traveling to the Holy Land and tended to the sick and poor. Modern Templars continue that tradition in spirit: they are expected to be defenders of the innocent, helpers of the needy, and exemplars of charity in their communities.
HONOUR & INTEGRITY
For the Knights Templar, Honour is the very fibre of knighthood. In days of old, a knight’s honour was his reputation for virtue, honesty, and courage; if he broke his vows or acted dishonourably, he lost his standing. Likewise, a modern Templar Mason is expected to uphold the highest moral integrity in every aspect of life. The precepts of the Order demand honesty, fidelity, and personal responsibility.
