Information Regarding Regalia

Knights Templar

Mantle:
The mantle is crafted from white fabric and features a silk-lined hood with decorative tasselled cords. A red Cross Patée is prominently displayed just below the left shoulder.

Tunic:
Made from matching white material, the tunic extends to at least knee length. A red Latin Cross runs the full length of the front, providing a striking symbol of the Order.

Cap:
The cap is fashioned from red velvet, three inches deep, and bears a silver Cross Patée prominently on the front.

Sash:
The sash is composed of black watered silk, four inches in width, and is finished with a black silk fringe. It culminates in a silver knot at the point.

Breast Jewels:
The Knight’s breast jewel consists of a red enamelled gilt Cross Patée, suspended from a red ribbon edged in white and worn over the left breast. Adjacent to this, a seven-pointed star crafted from silver-toned metal is also worn. At its centre lies a red Passion Cross on a white enamel background, encircled by a black garter inscribed with ‘In Hoc Signo Vinces’.

Sword and Accessories:
The sword is of straight design with a traditional straight cross hilt and is typically carried from a frog affixed to a leather belt, which may also feature a metal tongue. Black gloves or gauntlets complete the ensemble.

Order of Malta

Mantle:
The mantle is of black fabric, designed to fully cover the tunic. It includes a hood of the same material, lined in white silk, and is secured at the neck with a white silk cord. A white Maltese Cross is displayed on the left arm, matching the cross on the tunic.

Tunic:
The tunic is made from Peony Red material, extending below the knees and fastening at the back. A white Maltese Cross, 14 inches in height and width, is emblazoned on the front.

Cap:
The cap is made of black velvet and bears a white enamelled Maltese Cross in gilt metal on the front.

Breast Jewel:
The jewel consists of a gilt Maltese Cross with silver-coloured lions positioned between the arms. It is worn on the left breast, suspended from a black ribbon and gilt bar by a silver bow.

Sword and Accessories:
The belt, sword, and gloves mirror those worn by the Knights Templar. Notably, no sash is worn with the Knights of Malta regalia.

Provincial Warden of Regalia

The Provincial Warden of Regalia holds a key office within the province, entrusted with the stewardship, maintenance, and ceremonial standards of all regalia used throughout the Order. This role is both practical and symbolic ensuring the dignity, uniformity, and reverence associated with the regalia worn by our Knights and Officers.

The Statue book in sections 165 to 194 outlines the full details of all the correct regalia which is to be worn by Knights of the Order.

Regalia is available from a wide range of Masonic suppliers, including many online retailers.

In addition, the Worcestershire Province operates a pre-owned regalia service, offering brethren the opportunity to purchase quality items at significantly reduced prices.

The Provincial Warden of Regalia, E.Kt. Dave Hughes, is readily available to support all Brother Knights across the Province with both new and recycled regalia. His contact details are listed below.

Where possible, mantle badge exchanges are facilitated either from existing stock or through introductions for direct swaps between brethren.

Brethren are warmly encouraged to donate unwanted or superseded regalia to help support fellow Knights.

Please ensure that items purchased online, such as from eBay, comply with the current Great Priory Statutes for regalia of the Order.

Remember, the Provincial Warden of Regalia is here to assist you—please do not hesitate to get in touch.
